I read a lot about several comparable A/C units at this price range and this seemed the best to me. Having bought it, I'm glad that I did. It is quiet and quickly cools down our room. I think the complaints about noise must be from a faulty unit or improper installation, because ours is barely noticeable half the time. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants a quiet powerful air conditioner.

This Frigidaire Air Conditioner will help you keep your cool on the hottest days, with plenty of deluxe features to help you save money, and enjoy excellent air quality. The air conditioner comes with a remote, so you can set the temperature, or turn it on or off, without needing to get out of bed. The deluxe features are all you could ask for. For example, the fan has three speed settings, along with an AUTO setting, which changes the fan speed to correspond to higher heat levels. You can also select FAN ONLY, to circulate air without chilling it. The SLEEP function raises the temperature of the room by 4 degrees over a 1 hour period. The machine also has a CLEAN AIR button, that uses an ionizer to help remove dust and pollen from the room. You can also turn the device on and off with a timer, which is perfect if you want the air conditioner to kick on about an hour before you get home from work. Another excellent idea is this indoor/outdoor lever. If you want to draw in cool air from outside, the air conditioner offers you that option. You save money not only through the efficiency of the machine's design, but also thru smart use of these auto on and off features (Energy Saver mode, sleep mode, timer, etc). When you are asleep, or not at home, why keep the room at 72 degrees F?

Setting up the Frigidaire air conditioner is a breeze. However, make sure you READ THE DIRECTIONS FOR INSTILATION FIRST! The plastic louvers on either side of the air conditioner need to slide into place BEFORE you put the machine in the window. Also the air conditioner is heavy, and requires two people to lift it, and place it in the window. When you get the box from UPS, it will have a TEAM LIFT sticker on the box, because one person shouldn't try to lift it themselves. Once you get the louvers slipped into place, after you take it out of the box, it only takes a few minutes before you plug it in, and have cool air. I really like how it works, and how it looks.

We've all been through the AC Jig ... you buy a fancy name brand, you install it, and the problems begin. Given that this was the year to replace the two window ACs in the house, I decided to "go rogue" and order the SPT instead of a Fedders or Frigidaire or the like.

I'm glad that I did.

This is an amazing AC ... it's actually relatively quiet - both on the compressor side and on the build side. Note that I did not say silent, but compared to other 10k-12k BTU units, it's like listening to ambient trance instead of techno. Nice. No longer do I have to walk over to the AC and slap it on the side to get it to quiet down - the poorly engineered housings of the other, name-brand units rattle and squeak and complain too much - and since I am no longer hitting inanimate objects, we're going to save a lot of money on therapy for me.

I like the remote (which you can use from 90 degrees to the side (apparently a miracle of modern technology that has escaped other makers)), the timer functions, and the dehumidifier mode ... very nice for cool yet humid days here in the backcountry. But what I really like is the QUIET.

PS- if you do the install yourself, it's not a bad idea to caulk all around the unit to really seal it up. This may not be important to urban folks, but living here in the woods, any little beam of light that illuminates a path into the house will attract gnats, skeeters, and those ever-inquisitive sabre-toothed tigers and mastodons. So caulk around it so that you can enjoy refreshingly cool and quiet summer evenings without being disturbed by Mother Nature's little friends.

The unit is very reliable during the hot summer nights particularly in Illinois which we just had a heat wave last week and more to come. Installed the unit and surprisingly after 15 to 20 mins. of runtime in the area where I installed the same , the temperature dropped by 3 degrees. The area is 500 sq. ft which comprises the receiving room and kitchen.One thing i like about the unit is, it also has an energy saver mode which runs as a central A/C. it automatically turns itself off ( the whole unit)and on according to your desired temperature using the remote sensing control. The unit could be also programmed in a sleep mode for 24 hour. It's just like having a central A/C but in a smaller package.With this unit you could save more and rely on

I got it hoping it would keep my apartment cool-ER. I expected it to keep it comfortable, not cold. I also had a bit of a problem with size. The only window that opens in my house is a vertical sliding window, which Air Conditioners I can afford, aren't made for.
Once I received it, I started to assemble and install. Originally I was going to leave the extensions off, since my window was only 18 inches wide, but after I got it and thought about it more, I realized they could still help keep it supported. So I put them on. They are about an inch inside the window, to help it from falling out. Also, I originally hoped to buy some wood and put that above it, but once I saw how sturdy it was with just the extensions, I put cardboard above it and plastic taped around the edges with duct tape. Very red neck, I know. It's sealed with the help of some other bits that came with it to help seal it.
I installed it a little over 12 hours ago and my home is cold. I live in a house above a garage. Just a large living room, average bathroom and small bedroom. It's 621 SQ Feet.(assuming I did the math correctly. 23 x 27 feet.) This is total, but there are 3 separate rooms here. (Also, I have a low ceiling, only 6.5 Feet.) I placed it in my only opening window in the living room and it keeps the bathroom cold which is closest, and my bedroom pretty cold too, which is farthest. A lot larger than advertised for. I didn't care, I needed a little cooler than I had. Before, it was hotter inside than it was outside. I have it on high, but will consider turning it down, which I never thought I would do. I like the cold. It's THAT cold.
For $110, I got an amazing air conditioner that perform WAY better than expected/advertised and it got here exceptionally fast too. It arrived 4 days after I ordered it with standard shipping and handling. I am a very happy costumer.
